16+ exams enable schools to filter their applicants for admission into Sixth Form (Year 12 and 13).
These spots are often competitive, as there aren’t usually huge numbers of spaces available at schools, due to the existing student body being present who joined at 11+ or 13+. This is with the exception of sixth form colleges where the entire student body is admitted at Year 12.
The nature of 16+ assessments varies based on the type of examinations the school teacher. For most A-Level schools, there will be one assessment for each subject the student is applying to study. For IB schools, there are usually some mandatory assessments for all candidates, as well as others based on the options the student will pick.
The syllabus content for these exams is based on GCSE content, but the way the questions are pitched and phrased may be out of the ordinary; competitive schools may try and ask questions in a more challenging way in order to differentiate between their applicants so that they onboard the best.
16+ tuition tends to be a mixture of subject knowledge reinforcement and past paper practice. Our tutors have resources from many different schools, so can expose their students to a very large range of question type to maximise their preparedness before their exams.
