Eton College: 6 applicants, 5 offers (including 1 King’s Scholarship) Stage 1: ISEB Pretest – assessing numeracy, problem-solving & vocabulary through tests in Mathematics, English, VR and NVR. Multiple choice, computerised exam with high time pressure and adaptive questions.
Stage 2: Computer-based ‘Eton List Test’. Mathematics assessment, including questions on time zones and currency conversion. An English essay scrolls up the screen with errors in each line that need to be corrected before the timer runs out. Puzzle questions to assess VR and NVR, using a mouse to choose the correct answers. Additional writing task, typically asking an open-ended non-fiction question: ‘Is the world a better place without rules?’ and ‘How could humans better deal with the climate crisis?’.

Westminster Under School: 5 applicants, 4 offers
Stage 1: ISEB Pretest – as above.
Stage 2: English exam testing comprehension and writing – inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation included. Classic mark scheme crediting imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion, and sentence structure. Challenging mathematics exam testing problem-solving and arithmetic. Best preparation comes from completion of the Eton King’s Scholar Papers, Westminster Challenge and Tonbridge/Radley/St Edward’s Scholarship Papers. |
St Paul’s School, Boys & Girls: 4 applicants, 4 offers
Stage 1: ISEB Pretest – as above.
Stage 2: English and Mathematics exams similar to Westminster. The English exam typically uses source-based comprehension tasks, similar to a history exam. Students are required to analyse multiple text passages and also determine their validity based on age and author. The mathematics exam is split into three sections by difficulty.
