Engineering
Engineering revolves around the implementation of scientific principles and knowledge to design and build products that benefit society. It is therefore a particularly exciting discipline, as engineers can work right on the cutting edge of technology that transforms the way people live their lives.
These fields can span things such as designing airships and UAVs with aerospace engineering, designing artificial heart valves in biomedical engineering, and engineering cells in synthetic biology. Needless to say, Engineering straddles multiple subjects, including Maths, Science, Computer Science and DT.
Studying Engineering at university can look different based on the university you choose. Some universities, such as Cambridge, don’t have a huge number of Engineering courses; most students study the course “Engineering” which offers the ability to specialise later on within the course, via optional modules.
Other universities, such as Imperial College London, offer many different Engineering course variants, meaning students join the university already specialising to a certain extent. It can be good to pick a broader course, as sometimes one’s idea of studying a subject may not end up matching the reality of studying it. Oftentimes, in studying the course, they can be drawn to a slightly different area than what they expected.
But, for students who are sure of what they want to hone in on, the more specialised courses may be best for them.
To get to the very cutting edge of fields like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, one tends to do a Master’s or PhD. There is always the scope to specialise at this level, beyond a more general undergraduate course.
Competitive universities may have requirements such as admissions tests (ESAT or PAT) and interviews, so it is important to check what is expected of you when deciding on which courses to apply for; our tutors can help with this.
As Engineering isn’t directly taught at school, Engineering tuition will revolve around:
For undergraduate and postgraduate students, we also offer longer-term mentorship services and intensive tuition packages. We can offer Engineering career consulting and advice, too.
Nathan is a 1st class Cambridge University Engineering graduate. A full-time tutor, he is extremely popular helping students prepare for Engineering, Computer Science and Physics degrees at prestigious universities. Nathan has industry experience in both Engineering and Corporate Finance, and has helped students prepare for and gain admission to overseas universities, such as MIT.
