Why Study Economics?

Economics is the study of goods and services; how they are produced, distributed and consumed within a society; and of money, which is an information system for labour allocation (the labour which then produces the aforementioned goods and services!) The global economic market is the interface of millions or even billions of people (mostly) freely interacting to exchange, provide and consume goods and services.

It is, therefore, an incredibly complex system to study, with even accomplished economists often getting predictions very wrong. Particularly in our day and age, there is so much information and data available. This data contributes to a lot of “noise” in the system, so a good economist must have the wisdom to be able to filter the signal from the noise to make good decisions and build quality models.

London-based and online economics tutors with Athena Tuition

At Athena Tuition, we have an excellent depth of Economics and Finance tutors. Our tutors include qualified teachers, heads of departments at schools, Cambridge graduates, full-time tutors and industry professionals. We also have tutors experienced in overlapping fields, such as PPE at the University of Oxford, Management, Accounting, Business Studies and Consultancy.

Our Economics tuition is primarily conducted online, however, we do have Economics tutors who are able to provide in-person teaching in London.

What levels do you offer economics tuition for?

Our tutors cover the following academic levels for economics tuition:

  • GCSE
  • A-Level and IB
  • University Admissions
  • Undergraduate and Postgraduate
  • Professional Qualifications

How does in-person tutoring work?

In-person tuition tends to be at the client’s home, although it can be at a convenient location agreed on by both the tutor and client. In-person tuition does restrict the choice of tutor, as they have to be within travelling distance of the client’s postcode, and it also comes as a premium to online tuition.

Younger students benefit in particular from in-person tutoring, as they may not have the maturity to engage well online over a prolonged period.

Can I receive online tutoring?

Yes! Economics tuition is most commonly online.

How do we track progress?

Tuition success can be tracked both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Lessons and homework will involve students answering questions, which tutors can mark to give an indication of attainment.

Progress can also be measured at school; if homework and assessment grades are improving, this suggests the tuition is being effective.

Tutors provide reports to parents either on a per-lesson basis or monthly. These will summarise what has been covered in the lesson, highlight any strengths and weaknesses, and give recommendations. They may also outline homework set, so parents can be on the case to ensure this gets done in a timely manner.

The final, and perhaps most important way, to gauge the success of the tuition is simply, does the student enjoy the lessons? Do they leave them feeling upbeat about the subject, looking forward to the next lesson, etc.? As from this will come motivation and then things like attainment targets can almost take care of themselves.
