US Curriculum
Our US Tutoring Services
Despite being a London-based agency, we have a strong pedigree with the US curriculum. Athena Tuition has a strong and growing specialism in the American curriculum, working with students across London’s major American and international schools including the American School in London, TASIS England, ACS Cobham, ACS Hillingdon and ACS Egham. Our tutors include Ivy League graduates, ASL alumni and specialists in SAT, ACT, AP, ISEE and SSAT preparation. US curriculum is a route that is becoming increasingly popular as families observe the ripe business climate in the United States and choose to align their children’s education with this system.
Our tutor cohort includes those who have studied at Ivy League universities like Harvard, and those who have been through the US schooling system either in the United States itself or at schools such as the American School London (ASL). For more information on ASL, please click here to read our blog post.
We offer tuition across the following areas:
SAT and ACT preparation for students in Grades 10 through 12, with a focus on test strategy and time management as well as subject content. ISEE and SSAT preparation for families applying to ASL and other selective American schools, particularly at Grade 5 and above where standardised testing is required. AP subject tuition across more than 15 subjects including AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Physics, AP English Language, AP English Literature, AP History and AP Economics. American curriculum transition support for students moving from British or IB schools who need to bridge gaps in analytical writing, mathematical reasoning or subject knowledge.
On top of these tutors, many of our high end UK-based educators have strong depth of expertise supporting students with assessments such as Advanced Placement (AP) exams, SSATs, SATs, ACTs and GRE. Our admissions experts offer consultation services to help students select and gain admission to US universities such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Duke, Stanford and MIT.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do my child’s tutors need to know the American curriculum specifically?
Yes, and this is exactly why we take care to match students with tutors who have direct experience of the American system rather than simply strong subject knowledge. The SAT, ACT and AP examinations have specific formats, question styles and marking criteria that are quite different from British examinations, and familiarity with those specifics makes a meaningful difference to preparation. Our tutors who work with American curriculum students have either studied within the American system themselves, attended American schools, or have significant experience preparing students for these specific assessments.
Can you help with the ISEE or SSAT for ASL admissions?
Yes. From Grade 5 upwards, ASL and most other selective American schools require a recent ISEE or SSAT result as part of the admissions process. We provide focused preparation for both tests, with an emphasis on making the question formats and mathematical framing feel familiar rather than alien. British pupils often have strong underlying knowledge but find the test style disorienting at first and a short period of targeted preparation typically makes a significant difference to both confidence and result.
Can you help with US university applications from London?
Yes. The American university admissions process is considerably more complex than the British UCAS system, placing significant weight on the personal essay, extracurricular record, teacher recommendations and demonstrated interest alongside academic results. Our admissions specialists have direct experience of applying to and attending Ivy League and other highly selective American universities, and guide students through every stage of the process from building an initial college list to submitting a final application.
