Athena Tuition

Online and London-Based A-Level Tutors

Advanced (A)-Levels are academic courses taught over Year 12 and 13, with assessment usually involving exams at the end of Year 13 and coursework prior to this. For students applying to university, offers will usually be conditional on A-Level results.

A step up from GCSEs, students can sometimes find the transition to A-Level quite challenging.

Tuition revolves around establishing a strong knowledgebase and then working on exam technique in order to learn how to apply that knowledge to the exam in order to gain maximum marks.

Tuition structure

Tuition for A-Levels tends to take the following forms:

  1. Long-term tuition that supplements school learning. Tuition tends to run in parallel with the content being covered at school. This gives the student opportunity for further clarification of tricky concepts, extra practice, and also an opportunity for eager students to explore extension areas beyond and around the syllabus content.
  2. Homeschooling. In this case, our tutors teach the whole syllabus from scratch, rather than supplementing school learning. This can allow for more flexibility in terms of the direction moved through the syllabus and timetabling; proactive, motivated students may be able to make sufficient progress without need for too many contact hours per week, whereas other students may benefit from more frequent lessons. Tutors can advise on a case-by-case basis. Homeschooling also comes with other consideration,s which we can discuss, such as arranging examinations and ensuring there is provision for the student to get appropriate social contact, to make up for what they are missing out on at school. It is important to consider things holistically in order to facilitate the rounded education, maturation and growth of the student.
  3. Focused, targeted short-term tuition in the run-up to exams, or to address specific weak areas. In this scenario, the student, by default, doesn’t receive tuition, but tutors are brought in during critical periods and often in a more intensive manner.

There is the option for A-Level tuition to evolve to include university application support. This can include personal statement advice, admissions test assistance, extension material tuition and interview practice.

Tuition can be provided online or in person in the London area. Our tutors can support with all exam boards.
