London-based 8 Plus (8+) Exam Tutors

At Athena Tuition, we work with high-end 8 Plus (8+) tutors who have an excellent track record providing tailored in-person and online tutoring. They are entrance exam specialists, have extensive experience and, in many cases, are qualified teachers or full-time tutors.
Our private tutors can accommodate a wide range of learning styles to help children develop their academic skills and gain a deeper understanding of what is expected in the school entrance exam.
What is the 8+?
8+ exams are admissions assessments for entry into Year 4 of private prep schools.
How does 8+ differ from 7+?
Typically, the 8+ format is very similar to 7+, only with more advanced content, to reflect the extra year of learning your child will have done.
English, Maths, verbal reasoning, and non-verbal reasoning are the range of subjects most commonly assessed, followed by an interview.
Schools also typically have fewer spaces available at 8+ than 7+.
Which schools offer 8+ entry?
The precise format of the 8+ admissions assessments varies from school to school, so it is important to check the websites of your target schools. Our tutors can also provide insights about the admissions processes of the various schools.
How can we help?
At Athena Tuition, we have interviewed, vetted and tracked professional tutors across all disciplines, so we can find the perfect match for your child’s 8+ exam preparation.
Tuition will involve:
Reports
We recommend discussing reports at the start of the collaboration to get everyone on the same page. Reports can be verbal or written and sent out after each tutoring session or monthly, whichever is preferred.
When should I start 8+ tutoring?
This depends on several factors, including:
The target school, your child’s starting level, how consistent they are with practice between lessons, session frequency and how engaged the parents/guardians are in the process.
Commencing tuition 12–18 months before the exams are to be sat is quite standard and allows for a less intensive approach.
If in doubt, please err on the side of caution and get in touch sooner rather than later to discuss things. Top tutors are often busy and may not have lots of availability the moment you call, so getting in touch a few months ahead of when you are looking to commence can help to guarantee sessions with your first-choice tutor.
Please feel free to give us a call, and we can discuss recommendations for you based on the nuances of your situation.

Yes, 8+ assessments can be sat after 7+ assessments; commitment to sit 7+ would not rule out one’s ability to sit an 8+ admissions assessment a year later, should they be unsuccessful at 7+ entry.
The 8 Plus Exam is for children in Year 3, and consists of English, Maths, and reasoning questions. This exam is designed to evaluate the academic ability of applicants to assess whether they would perform well in certain schools.
